Young children and their families

The early childhood period from infancy through age five is one of constant growth and change. For children, this may mean ever-adjusting to the newest version of themselves, what they can do, and what adults and peers expect of them. For parents, this may mean navigating children’s new independence, frustration, and behavioral communication strategies that get in the way of family or school functioning.

What brings families in

Families come to me when their young child is experiencing:

  • Emotional or behavioral dysregulation
  • Developmental or adaptive concerns
  • Stress related to significant changes — a move, a loss, a scary experience, a difficult transition
  • Concerns about autism

How I work

I believe that play is the language of young children, and I use play-based approaches in my work with them. With young children I rarely work with a child in isolation, knowing that in early childhood, important relationships are where change happens. Alongside any work with a child, I work closely with parents and caregivers — strengthening their capacity to reflect on and support their child’s growth and development, and offering strategies and guidance for managing the behaviors that may be getting in the way of connection.

For children with more significant developmental or behavioral concerns, I also offer developmental evaluation and psychological testing to bring greater clarity. Learn about testing & developmental evaluations →
